Monday morning I arrived at the parking garage which is about a block away. That was no problem. Went through security. Basically same procedure as going through an airport however you get to keep your shoes on at the court house. Nice people direct you where to find the other 250 + people anxiously awaiting. The best news wasall the free coffee, espresso, cappicino and hot chocolate you can drink. After waiting about half an hour for people to arrive. Some people actually had the nerve to not show up or show up after lunch. I don't think that's a good thing. Anyhoo.
The first round of waiting to hear if your name was called was extremly nerve racking. You kinda stop breathing. After that first round of names. You quickly learn which 2 people you dread seeing entering the room. I managed to sneak past 2 of the judges radars as they are the ones that read your info sheet and decide if they want to see you in their court potentially. Well you could say 3rd times a charm cuz the 3rd round I was seen on the radar. I was selected with 29 others to go before the judge and both sides. This for the 1st 2 groups prior was a quick process. They were back in 20 minutes. However I left the jury room at 11:30 and didn't return till 3:30. It was interesting to sit through the process. I was kind of offended that I didn't get picked. But I was glad I did not get picked, as it was a rape case. I don't think I could have handled that. So at 3:30 we went back to jury room. At 4:00 those 2 ladies we dreaded seeing came back. They had good news and bad news. Good news we were dismissed for the day(monday) but had to return today(tuesday). Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
I arrived back at the courthouse today(tuesday) and grabbed my free cup of hot chocolate and settled in and caught up on the news from the previous day. There was a group of us that sorta migrated together the day before. So we discussed the juries we didn't get selected for, by that time "those dreaded ladies" came in. Everyone has to scurry back to their seats. She does roll call. Kinda like being in kindergarten. Can you believe some people still did not show up?!
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief after "they" left. A few moments later "they" were baaack.
They called the names, whew I managed to avoid the list. About 25 minutes had past "they" came back. I had this aweful feeling I was gonna get picked. Sure enough I was called. Me and 29 others lined up single file according to the order the judge chose. Now listening to this case and all the preliminary questions I had this feeling I was gonna be on this jury. Sure enough I was chosen. I had this sick feeling come over me. But then i soon felt peace come in. And soon we went for our lunch break. We came back and listened to people talking and saw evidence and then we went back to decide the outcome of this. Oh MY LORD!!! Let me just say getting 12 people to agree on one answer even when there's evidence is sooo hard! So I have to go back tomorrow to discuss and come to a discision.
I ask for prayer for my restful, peaceful sleep tonight so that I can clearly make a descision tomorrow, also that this will be a swift and accurate process. Peoples futures do hang in the balance. That's all that I can say. It's a very daunting position to be in.
I will update again soon.
Peace to you all
